How we compare

What goes into a useful shopping comparison

Start with the shopper’s need. The most useful comparison criteria are the ones that can change the purchase decision.

Product facts

Current official product information can support specifications, formulation, package size, serving instructions, warranty and other product identity fields.

Price and availability

Merchant pages can support current price and availability, but those facts change quickly. When used, they should be checked close to publication and tied to the relevant seller and market.

Value

Value includes more than the headline price. Recurring charges, shipping, replacement parts, consumables, warranty, subscription terms and expected use can all change the real cost.

Health-related products

For health, dental, weight-loss and some fitness or beauty products, product claims and independent evidence are separate questions. Shopping guidance should not diagnose, prescribe or guarantee results.

Deal claims

Discounts, scarcity and promotional terms should not be invented. A deal page should reflect a current, verifiable offer and should be updated or removed when the offer changes materially.
